چکیده

In this paper equatorward propagating large scale traveling ionospheric disturbance (LSTID) on 17 March 2015 were investigated using the Statistical Angle-of-Arrival and Doppler Method for GPS (SADM-GPS) radio interferometry technique in data-scarce East Africa. To apply SADM-GPS method, 5 arrays each with 3 receivers arranged a triangular geometry used. Our results show that during 15:00–18:00 UT March, TIDs mean horizontal velocities between 161.9 464.4 m/s observed. Using wavelet analysis, periods of range 51–69 min qualify to LSTIDs revealed. The peak-to-peak phase shift detrended total electron content (TEC) over latitudes study confirms TID propagation, which was obtained by technique. A pair magnetometers used infer E × B drift an adequate agreement found Swarm satellites derived plasma density enabled us explain behaviour irregularity main geomagnetic storm. Moreover, significant TEC enhancement (reaching ∼20%–105%) captured period propagation. Nevertheless, rate change (ROT) ROT index (ROTI) wavy structures reflect effects modulations post noon evening hours 2015.

Robust Detection of Ionospheric Irregularities

The Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) will provide real-time differential GPS corrections and integrity information for aircraft navigation use. The most stringent application of this system will be precision approach, where the system guides the aircraft to within a few hundred feet of the ground. Precision approach operations require the use of differential ionospheric corrections. WAAS mu...

Studies of Ionospheric Irregularities: Origins and Effects

The long-term goal of this project is to study waves, irregularities, and propagation in the earth's ionosphere, particularly with respect to GPS. The project has two foci: first, to understand how the ionosphere affects GPS signals and second, how GPS can be used for remote sensing of the ionosphere. In association with these goals, we additionally conduct in situ experiments on satellites and...

Variation of ionospheric slab thickness over South Africa

Ionospheric slab thickness is defined as the ratio of TEC to maximum electron density of the F-region (NmF2), proportional to the square of the F2-layer critical frequency (foF2). It is an important parameter in that it is linearly correlated with scale height of the ionosphere, which is related to electron density profile. It also reflects variation of the neutral temperature. Therefore, ionos...

Detection and Modeling of Medium-Scale Travelling Ionospheric Disturbances in Iran Region

Ionosphere layer variations are divided into regular and irregular. Regular changes can be considered as daily changes, changes depending on latitude and changes due to solar activity. Travelling Ionospheric Disturbances (TID) is one of the irregular changes of ionosphere which categorized in small, medium and large scales. Medium-scale Travelling Ionospheric Disturbance (MSTID) which are propa...

The climatology of ionospheric plasma bubbles and irregularities over Brazil

In this paper, we examine ionospheric plasma depletions (or bubbles) and irregularities observed by photometers and a ground-based receiver of the global positioning system (GPS) both located in Brazil, South America. A simultaneous observation reveals that when the ionospheric plasma becomes depleted, the GPS total electron content decreases and the associated phase fluctuations grow. Statisti...
